The patient, Jadoo Nath Shatrah, aged 25 years, was admitted into the 1st Surgeon's Ward, Medical College Hospital, on the 20th July, 1866, for a tumour of the left upper maxillary bone. About 6 months ago he experienced a pain in the gum?, followed soon afterwards by a swelling in the left upper jawbone, close to the molar teeth. The swelling gradually enlarged, and at the time of admission extended from the posterior part of the left upper maxillary bone forwards and inwards across the median line, towards the right side, as far as the right canine tooth and upwards to the malar bone. The tumour was hatd, and in some parts had an elastic feel. The teeth of the left side were displaced and irregular, and some of them had fallen out, and those of the right side were pushed forward, but not irregular. There was" some bulging of the left cheek and of the alveolar process ; no protrusion of the eye. There were some openings on the lower and posterior part of the tumour which discharged a purulent fluid. He could open the mouth only to the extent of half an inch, and he had difficulty in taking food. Enjoyed tolerably fair health. Had a good appetite and regular bowels. Ou the morning of the 13th August the tumour was removed by the following process :?Two incisions were made, one extended from the lelt angle of the mouth to the malar bone, another from about the middle of the upper lip along the side of the nose to the inner angle of the left orbit; the flap was raised and vessels tied, and the whole of the left upper maxillary The bone and inner half of the malar bone were removed. lips of the wound were kept in apposition by horse-hair sutures.

After the operation the patient suffered for 3

or

4

days from

slight fever, without any other constitutional derangement. The flaps united by primary adhesion, and the marks of the incision can now with difficulty be made out. 29th August.?No fever. Doing remarkably well. Wound inside the cheek is covered with healthy granulation, and cicatrizing favorably.
