Turpentine stupes over the abdomen; effervescing draughts likewise given to allay the sickness. .Under this treatment the restlessness diminished, but the other symptoms remained unabated; the abdominal tenderness and distension increased daily, and the vomiting became stercoraceous; the injection was repeated, and the pills and fomentation were regularly given for the next two days after the commencement of the disease, but to no avail; on the fourth day, the pain suddenly ceased, and the patient manifested symptoms of collapse ; eyes sunk in their sockets, countenance worn, pulse feeble and irregular. The postexamination revealed the real condition of the internal structures. The peritoneum was of natural tone and texture. The small intestines were congested, distended with flatus, and slightly filled with fcecal matters. On laying open the large intestines, a portion of the ileum, about five inches in length, was found invaginated within the coecum and ascending colon, and the constricted part was almost in a state of mortification. This case reminds me of a similar one which occurred a few years ago in the Medical College Hospital, Calcutta, under the care of my much respected teacher, Dr. Chevers. In this subject a long portion of the ileum had passed through the ileo-ccecal valve into the large intestine.

symptoms of obstruction had evidenced themselves.
