A CASE OF LARGE HYDROCELE. By SurCtN.-CAPT. G. UAPLL HALL, I.M.S.,

Dist.

Surgeon, Anantajmr.

While Acting District Surgeon and Superintendent of the Medical School at ISTellore at the latter end of last year, a low caste Hindu presented himself with a scrotal tumour-?at once seen to be of a most unusual size, and found to be a hydrocele of the right tunica vaginalis. I may at once mention that the total fluid meaHe stated that it had been six sured 112 ozs. months iu growing : here it may uot be out of place to wonder at the perverse way iu which a native will give an imaginary history of his case. Reflecting over his treatment I felt convinced that 110 injecting method would suffice, for even with the best results a mass of organised inflammatory exudation is almost invariably left, and in this case the reaction after any injection must be exceedingly great and a correspondingly large exudation the result. I therefore decided upon what is really the best method after all, viz., excision of the entire sac ; to this he readily agreed. It was at once performed, before a fair class of students, &c., in the usual way, only the tapping was not performed until the skin was well incised and reflected. Unfortunately asepsis had not been sufficiently thorough, and his eventual recovery was much delayed by suppuration in the scrotum. My hydrocele, in the Madras Geueral
