During etomidate-N,O vecuronium anaesthesia for appendectomy, three groups of 13 children received fentanyl as a 10 pg. kg-l loading dose and 2 pg. kg-' increments in Group F', alfentanil as a 100 pg. kg-' initial loading dose and either 20 pg kg-' increments in Group AB or 1 pg. kg-'. min-' continuous infusion in Group AI.
