Angioid streaks may be idiopathic; however, when associated with pseudoxanthoma elasticum, Paget disease, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, or various hemoglobinopathies, patients are at risk for choroidal neovascularization and various life-threatening systemic conditions such as gastrointestinal hemorrhage, cardiac disease, anemia, and pathological fractures.
