enore T. Coleman, Pharm.D., CDE, FASHP, on December 10, 2013, became the third recipient of the ASHP/Association of Black Health-System Pharmacists Joint Leadership Award.

She received the award, which recognizes exceptional leadership in efforts to reduce racial and ethnic disparities in health care, for her work in recruiting more minority patients to participate in clinical trials of drugs. Coleman has increased minorities’ participation in clinical trials through the company she founded, Healing Our Village of Maryland Inc. A division of the company, Healing Our Village Clinical Research Network, provides training and support to African-American and Hispanic physicians who want to be investigators for pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies and can enroll specific patient populations. Healing Our Village also provides medication therapy management services and health education programs in physicians’ offices, urban hospitals, and community health clinics. In addition, the company trains health care professionals how to provide culturally competent
diabetes care. Coleman continues to serve as the company’s president. She is a coauthor of Healing Our Village: A Self-Care Guide to Diabetes Control, now in its second edition. Coleman received her Pharm.D. degree from the University of California, San Francisco. She is the 2012 award recipient. Thomas E. Buckley, B.S.Pharm., M.P.H., of the University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy was the 2010 award recipient. Folakemi T. Odedina, B.Sc.Pharm., Ph.D., now at the University of Florida colleges of pharmacy and medicine, was the 2009 award recipient. The award was established in 2009.
