Dear Editor: We thank Dr Chen and associates for their interest in our paper. 1. Syndesmotic screws have long been the standard for fixation of syndesmosis injuries. Although new products utilizing high strength suture are available for syndesmosis fixation, until recently little was known about their clinical effectiveness. It is currently unclear if these new methods are superior to screws or not.

2. As stated in the Methods and Materials Section, the interosseous ligament (interosseous membrane) was sectioned prior to testing with screw fixation. 3. We believe it is unlikely that the length of the screws would affect the results. The penetration depth of all screws was determined by direct inspection. Keith L.
