Oh, work with self-help groups, mutual support groups, local h u m a n service consumers, people going t h r o u g h run-of-the-mill life crises, media campaigns to promote coping skills, linkages, and access to resources. Brief Notes Understanding "Senility" -- A Layperson's Guide by Susan Thornton and Virginia Fraser (1982} is a sensitive publication that explains Alzheimer's disease in a clear and simple way. It would be a useful publication for families with a member experiencing this disease. The 47 page booklet is priced at $4.95 a copy and is available from Potentials Development for Health and Aging Services, Inc. 775 Main Street, Suite 325, Buffalo, New York 14203.

While not a book on prevention per se, The Sunshine Widows by Harvey and Bahr {1980} is an excellent volume that should be read by any prevention worker intending to work in the area of easing the distress of grief related to the loss of a spouse. It is available from Lexington Books, Lexington, Massachusetts. Sorry, but pricing information was not available. Sharon Alexander {1981} has written a helpful primer for the National Association of State Boards of Education entitled How To Be A n Effective Advocate. Intended for the layperson, it would be of greatest use with citizen groups. This 63 page booklet is available for $4.75 by writing NASBE at 444 N. Capitol Street, NW, Suite 526, Washington, D.C. 20001. The January/February issue of Citizen Participations, a "newspaper" published by The Lincoln Filene Center for Citizenship and Public Affairs is devoted to the prevention tool of self-help.
