Cardiac aspergilloma Sir, the recent report on “aspergilloma of the heart” is very interesting.1 Soman et al reported a case and concluded that “Aspergillus not only affects the heart valves but also the cardiac chambers1” and mentioned that this is the first report. In fact, the intracardiac aspergillosis is a rare clinical presentation of aspergillosis. However, the present case might not be the first case. According to the report by Dang-Tran et al, which is published in February 2014, the isolated aspergillosis myocardial abscesses in a liver e transplant case is already published.2 In addition, Li et al also reported the autopsy finding of myocardial arpergillosis in a death case of near drowning patient who died after a short hospitalization.3 Finally, in 1996, Cishek et al also presented a patient with cardiac aspergilloma who presented with myocardial infarction and finally died of cardiogenic shock.4 Focusing on those previous reports, it can be briefly summarized that the intracardiac aspergillosis is a rare clinical problem. The intracardiac aspergillosis can be seen in the patients with underlying severe health problems such as transplantation or near drowning. The diagnosis is usually difficult and successful isolation of the fungus is usually late. The infection is usually deadly and antifungal treatment usually fails. All patients in the previous report ended up with death.
