We report the nucleotide sequence of a cDNA clone encoding a complete amino acid sequence of mink growth hormone (mGH). The cDNA clone was isolated from a pUC19 cDNA library derived from mink pituitary poly(A)+ RNA using a porcine GH cDNA as a probe. The 783 base pairs (bp) cDNA clone has an open reading frame of 648 bp and the deduced amino acid sequence is 216 residues with a 24,469 daltons. Four cysteine residues (boxed) which may participate in the construction of structural features present in mGH at the same positions as those for other vertebrate GHs (1). The mGH shares 96%, 90%, 88%, 87% and 66% amino acid homology with the known mammalian sequences from porcine (2), mouse (3) or rat (4), bovine (5), goat (6) and human (7), respectively. The putative signal sequence is underlined and the polyadenylation signal is double underlined.
