CORRELATIONS OF BECK DEPRESSION INVENTORY A N D REYNOLDS ADOLESCENT DEPRESSION SCALE ' J. A. ATLAS AND W. J. DISCIPIO Bronx Children's Hospital Summary.-The scores of 15 adolescents who had a primary diagnosis OF Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, 21 of Conduct Disorder, and 23 control subjects on the Beck and Reynolds depression scales were correlated .58 over-d, .73 for the Posttraumatic group, .48 For the Conduct Disordered group, but .37 for controls. The Reynolds scale did not identdy depression in these adolescents as effectively as did the Beck scale.

Pearson correlations of scores on the Beck Depression Inventory ( 3 ) and the Reynolds Adolescent Depression Scale (4) were compared for 15 adolescents who had primary diagnoses of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and 21 Conduct Disordered adolescents diagnosed by psychiatrists using the DSM111-R ( I ) . Two Posttraumatic Disordered subjects were drawn from a day school for emotionally handicapped youngsters, while the remainder were on an Acute Inpatient Unit of a children's psychiatric hospital. A control group of 23 attended a parochial school. Over-all subjects ranged in age from 11.0 to 18.2 yr., with a mean of 14, showing no differences among groups. Ethnicity did not discriminate the groups. Of 58 subjects, all were nonwhite except for two white adolescents, one in the Posttraumatic group and one in the control group. Almost all of the hospitalized adolescents were on psychotropic medication, while the control subjects were not. Pearson correlations between scores on the Beck and Reynolds scales were .73 ( p < ,005, two-tailed) for the Posttraumatic group, .48 ( p < .05) for the Conduct Disordered group, and .37 (p
