(Alliance). Dr. Clark was a leading expert in the management of chronic disease and leaves an outstanding legacy, of which this Supplement is only one example. Dr. Clark was a fervent advocate of the work of the Alliance and its mission to fight diabetes and improve the quality of health care in vulnerable populations. A fitting tribute to Dr. Clark’s work would be for each of us, authors and readers, to carry forward a lesson from this collection in our quest to improve the lives of communities affected by diabetes. Dr. Clark was the Dean of the University of Michigan School of Public Health from 1995 to 2005. She was the Myron E. Wegman Distinguished University Professor of Public Health and founder and director of the University of Michigan’s Center for Managing Chronic Disease. Dr. Clark was the 36th President and Distinguished Fellow of the Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE). She served as associate editor (1982) and editor (1987-1997) of SOPHE’s journal Health Education Quarterly. Dr. Clark was a brilliant scholar, dedicated health educator, inspiring mentor, public health leader, and precious friend.

Supplement Note: This article is part of a journal supplement entitled “The Alliance to Reduce Disparities in Diabetes: Infusing Policy and System Change with Local Experience.” The supplement was supported by a grant to the Society for Public Health Education from the Merck Foundation.
