Discussion Dr. Johll Moossy: What was the source of the embolus? Dr. De Reuck: There was certainly occlusion of the middle cerebral artery in four of the neurotropinand four of the placebo-treated group. We did not dissect the carotid artery completely so we cannot say, but we had general autopsy. We also had cardiac evaluation postmortem that excluded, in our view, cardiac sources. Dr.James F. Toole: I need to know, once again, what

neurotropin is. I missed that point. How do you give it? Dr. De Reuck: You give it intravenously. Dr. Toole: Is it a diuretic? Dr. DeReuck: No, it is on the market in Japan. It is a biological extract and that is the main problem. It is not specifically for edema; it is an anti-inflammatory drug, but it has an effect as it blocks the kinin. It has been tried in brain edema and has been shown to have effect.
