Editorial Announcement Two years ago, we announced the appointment of Dr. Manuel Espinosa-Urgel as Editor in Chief of Research in Microbiology. His appointment coincided with the beginning of an important transition period for the journal, which needed to prepare for a new stage in a rapidly changing scenario of scientific publishing. In these two years, the Editorial Board of the Journal has been expanded and partly renewed, to keep up to date with the evolution of microbiology research. Our twostage evaluation process and revised criteria for publication have improved the quality of papers we publish, and the indicators of impact have continued their steady improvement. Furthermore, the average turnaround time for manuscripts has gone down from 34 to 27 days from submission to decision. We are now ready for the next quantum leap in the evolution of the Journal. It is in this context that we announce that Professor Anthony (Tony) Pugsley will take over as the Editor-in-Chief of ResMic (you, dear reader, should start getting used to this nickname for the journal) on January 1, 2014. Tony needs little presentation for molecular microbiologists, being as he is a key

figure in the field of bacterial protein trafficking and other aspects of molecular and structural microbiology. He also has substantial experience in scientific publishing, both as an author (of more than 180 research articles and reviews) and as a former editor-inchief of one of the most prestigious microbiology journals. Tony was the Scientific Director of the Institut Pasteur from 2009 to 2013, and is currently director of the Institut Pasteur Publications Office. Thus, he knows ResMic inside out. His inquisitive mind and sharp vision of the future of scientific publishing guarantee that the Journal will continue the traditions and innovations that have kept it the forefront of science publishing since 1887. We are bound to see many exciting changes in the months to come, and we invite all of our readers, our authors and our reviewers not only to witness but also to be part of them.
