T

he Education and Research Foundation of Prosthodontics is a nonprofit organization which contributes to prosthodontic research, education in prosthodontics, and publications in prosthodormcs. PURPOSE OF THE FOUNDATION The Foundation supports scientific research, the dissemination of knowledge, and education in and the advancement of dentistry within the discipline of prosthodontics. Financial assistance may be provided, in the name of the Education and Research Foundation in Prosthodontics, to promote this division of dental health and the public interest in prosthodontics. When completed and proved worthy of dissemination, results of Foundationsponsored research will be made available to the dental profession and dental schools. This will be done to aid in the scientific prosthodontic education of undergraduate and graduate dental students and members of the dental profession. Most research will be published in thesis or treatise form or, if acceptably condensed, in THE JOURNAL OF PROSTHETIC DENTISTRY or in one or more of the journals of the several prosthodontic societies holding membership in the Foundation, as will best serve the educational purposes of the corporation. The research will not include testing or inspection of materials or equipment incident to commercial or industrial use. The Foundation will be active in meetings or groups relating to the field of prosthodontics, with selected material being disseminated to the proper sources. Support for conferences, exhibits, and educational films will be considered. Any project within the stated purpose as outlined in the Articles and Bylaws of the Foundation may be authorized by the trustees, but in no case will such programs or materials duplicate existing programs of other groups.

THE NEED FOR PROSTHODONTIC SERVICES In the belief of the trustees, the Education and Research Foundation of Prosthodontics will provide a limited base of financial support for a variety of activities in the field not otherwise made available through funds from other sources. Large amounts of money are being allocated for scholarships, fellowships, basic sciences, and biologic and preventive dentistry, but support money for clinical prosthodontics is difficult to obtain. Help for small or minor projects is handicapped by prolonged paper work and evaluation. The Foundation hopes to channel aid to many deserving requests for small amounts. All projects shall be in the interest of prosthodontics and the health of the public. The dental profession in the United States faces ever-increasing demands for its essential services. This stems from a soaring population, greatly increased numbers of geriatric patients, and an increased public awareness of health service needs.

COPYRIGHTS OR PATENTS Officers of the Foundation do not anticipate that research under its sponsorship will result in inventions that are patentable; neither do they contemplate the fostering of research incident to commercial or industrial operations. However, should any research result in inventions of a patentable nature, contracts dealing with such inventions will be assigned to the Foundation, and the Foundation will, without any profit whatsoever, make such inventions available to the profession or the public at large. Should any copyright or copyrighted process result from sponsored research, it is the basic purpose and abiding intent of the Foundation and its officers to make the same available to the dental profession with no profit accruing therefrom.

SECURING FUNDS Individuals who contemplate research in projects related to prosthodontics may make application for financial support from the Foundation. A standard brief application form may be obtained from the Executive Secretary of the Foundation, Dr. Chester K. Perry, 17200 E. Warren Rd., Detroit, Mich. 48224. All requests are evaluated, and suggestions may be offered. The funds are directed toward expenses and costs of the project, not individual remuneration or travel. Usually articles are written for publication, and a credit line is given to the Foundation.

SCIENTIFIC PAPERS, REPRINTS, ETC. A supply of reprints which includes the Glossary of Prosthodontic Terms, Principles, Concepts, and Practices in Prosthodontics, and Minimum Standards of Prosthodontics is available. A minimal charge is made to cover the cost of these reprints. Requests should be made to the Education and Research Foundation of Prosthodontics, Reprints Department, c/o The Federation of Prosthodontic Organizations, 211 E. Chicago Ave., Ste. 943, Chicago, Ill. 60611.

CONTRIBUTIONS AND SUPPORT Contributions in support of the objectives and work of the Foundation are welcomed. Due to the specialized nature of the Education and Research Foundation of

Prosthodontics, it is assumed that support will come from supporting members of the Foundation. However, the support of individuals in all fields is most welcome. Contributions from commercial organizations may be invited at the discretion of the Board of Trustees. These contributions carry tax advantages for the donor. Bequests and memorials in support of the Foundation are a means by which the profession and others can aid in the research and educational efforts. In many instances, substantial estate tax benefits may accrue through gifts to the Foundation. Memorial donations to the Foundation are lasting and appropriate remembrances. Memorial cards noting the donation and suitable for enclosure with notes of sympathy will be forwarded upon request. A convenient method is to contribute $100.00 and obtain ten $10.00 memorial cards suitable for enclosure with a note of sympathy. All contributions are tax-exempt. Checks for individual contributions should be made payable to Education and Research Foundation of Prosthodontics and addressed to: Dr. Chester K. Perry, Executive Secretary, 17200 E. Warren Rd., Detroit, Mich. 48224. ORGANIZATION The Education and Research Foundation of Prosthodontics was founded in June, 1960, and incorporated on June 15, 1961, as a nonprofit corporation under the laws of the state of Utah. A tax-exempt status, as an organization described in section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code, was formally granted on Nov. 24, 1964. BOARD OF TRUSTEES Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr.
