The recombinant clone (DFtd7) which contains nucleotide sequences of Rous sarcoma provirus was isolated from genomic DNA library of duck embryonic fibroblasts transformed with RSV adapted to these cells (1). Hybridization of DFtd7 with RSVspecific probes revealed that it contained gag, pol, env and LTR, but completely lost sequences of src gene. The deletion occurred on the boundaries of direct repeats (2) flanking src-gene from both sides in transforming RSV (3). This new transformationdefective variant of Rous sarcoma virus, Prague strain subgroup C (td da Pr-RSV-C) has 28 alterations in env-gene as compared with Pr-RSV-C sequenced previously (3). 19 alterations in td da Pr-RSV-C coincide with those discovered in the transforming duck-adapted variant of Rous sarcoma virus (da Pr-RSV-C) which are distributed in two clusters and are possible consequence of 1 61 121 181 241 301

homologous recombination with chicken endogenous RAV-0-sequences (4). The results may serve as an evidence that td da Pr-RSV-C was originated from transforming duck adapted Rous sarcoma virus variant.
