To the Editor, "Indian Medical Gazette." Sir,?I have just read the interesting account of the "Epidemic of Yaws" published byMr. Powell in yourissue for September. There can be no doubt that the disease is more I published common in India than is generally supposed.

This patient had apparently contracted the disease from a playfrom Poudicherry suffering an mate who came from attack. I have seen another case in Madras, and Surgeon-Lieuenanta case in me showed Travancore. The ColonelEsmonde White disease is known in Travaucore by the name of "Portuguese treatment had no effect, local antiseptic ulcer." In my case but the disease disappeared rapidly when the patient became salivated as the result of the external application of mercurial ointment. MAITLAND, m.d., Madras, Surgn.-Major.
