Letters I am intrigued by Nick Blayney’s complaint that the UK is restricted by EU rules on TB control. What does he propose that we should do differently were we not an EU member state? Andrew Wilson, 55/15 Waterfront Avenue, Edinburgh EH5 1JD e-mail: [email protected] doi: 10.1136/vr.h2719

EUROPEAN UNION

EU membership I was pleased to see that the BVA Council decided that EU membership has been good for the UK. I would just like to add beef exports to Fred Landeg’s excellent explanation of the benefits of our membership (VR, May 16, 2015, vol 176, pp 512-513). Without legal action by the European Commission, our beef exports to other member states would still be blocked due to BSE, as they are by several countries worldwide. The Commission would not have taken this action on behalf of a third country. 552 | Veterinary Record | May 23, 2015
