The BCPT Nordic Prize 2013 was awarded to Professor Folke Sj€oqvist from Stockholm, Sweden. The prize ceremony will take place in early 2014. During 12 March to 15 March, Professor Eeva Moilanen organized a very successful BCPT Nordic Focused Conference entitled ‘Novel Drugs and Drug Targets to Treat Inflammation’ in Yll€as, Lapland, Finland. In this issue, you will find the proceedings in the form of 18 MiniReviews of that meeting. Under the auspices of the Section of Toxicology (DSFTM) and Scandinavian Society for Cell Toxicology (SSCT), Professor Lisbeth Ehlert Knudsen organized an equally successful BCPT Focused Conference entitled ‘Frontiers in Cell Toxicity Testing’ at the Vilvorde Course Center, in Charlottenlund, Denmark. The proceedings will appear in the journal later this year. In 2013, we had the great pleasure of publishing the abstracts from the XXVI Congress of the Spanish Society for Clinical Pharmacology, 17–18 October, Cadiz, Spain. BCPT was established in 1945 because Nordic pharmacologists and toxicologists needed an international journal in which they could publish their scientific papers. However, the globalization means that the relationship between BCPT and Nordic pharmacology and toxicology is as strong as ever albeit it has a completely different expression than 70 years ago. In November 2013, the Executive Committee decided on new and extensively revised statutes that more precisely describe the contemporary organization as well as emphasize the importance of Nordic pharmacology and toxicology for the journal. It was decided to provide a new name for the new management structure: Nordic Association for the Publication of BCPT. During 2013, as always, I have had an excellent collaboration with the two Associate Editors, Jens Lykkesfeldt and Ulf Simonsen as well as with Copy Editor Henrik Horneberg. I have also had an excellent collaboration with MiniReview Editors Eeva Moilanen, Jesper Hallas and Lisbeth Ehlert Knudsen as well as with the members of the Executive Committee and all of the Editorial Advisers. From 2014, I would like to welcome Tommy Eriksson and Sven Frøkjær as new Editorial Advisers. Finally, I direct my thanks to all the scientists who continue in increasing numbers to submit their manuscripts to BCPT and to all of the external reviewers who evaluate them very critically.
