Every patient with infarction was monitored for at least 48 h, and serious arrhythmias (ventricular tachycardia or fibrillation, supraventricular tachycardia, and complete heart block) were noted. Further inpatient stay was at least 7 days. Blood-sugars of patients without definite infaction (see figure) showed a unimodal skewed curve which transformed to a normal distribution when log values were used (mean 5.5 mmol/1, +11 S.D. and +2 s.D. being 1.5 and 3.5 mmol/1, respectively). This was significantly different from the distribution in those with infarction (mean 6-75 mmol/1) (f=7-36 P z 001 despite the similarity in sex, age, and number of known diabetics.
