EDITORIAL

HIP: the next chapter 2015 sees Hip International celebrate a quarter of a century in publishing scientific articles dedicated to diseases of the hip joint. Since its foundation in 1990, Hip International has grown tremendously, attracting almost 400 original articles a year; a quarter of which are eventually published. Its recent success is owed to its past editor-in-chief Mr Robert Spencer who increased Hip International’s impact factor and oversaw its indexing on Pubmed during his 7 years in charge. I have been fortunate to work with him as an associate editor for the last 3 years and behind the scenes as an editor-in-chief for the last 6 months. Hip International can only continue with the help and work of its reviewers, editorial board members and specialist editors and our thanks is offered to them. The journal relies heavily on the commitment of its associate editors; Michael Whitehouse, Paul Harvie, Tim Board and Ben Bolland, whose input continues to allow Hip International to function efficiently, and I would like to personally thank Mrs Sally Lumb who manages all the submissions expertly. The Journal would also like to thank Dr Aldo Toni for his dedicated work and commitment to Hip International as he also steps down from his editor-in-chief position. Orthopaedic practice is progressively becoming super-specialised and the more focused journals are becoming more prominent. It is realised that readers have little spare time and so Hip International is aiming to be an important source of quality information relevant to our readership. 2015 launches the new look Hip International, a new cover, new website, updated author instructions, more invited reviews from world renowned experts and the addition of a technical category for the publication of new surgical techniques. It was a great honour for me to be selected as the new editor-in-chief of Hip International. I have always had a fond spot for the journal after it published my first orthopaedic paper in 2005! I look forward to working with Wichtig and the European Hip Society in continuing the success of Hip International. Richard P. Baker
