position 83.1 % to the AccI site at map position 87.1 %. Bases 1161 to 1402 overlap the sequence published earlier by us (2).

DNA sequencing of the human enteric adenovirus type 41 Tak (1) genome upstream from the fiber protein gene (2) revealed an open reading frame of 387 amino acids coding for a 41.4K protein. The first 42 amino acids of this protein show a high degree of homology both to Ad41 (74%) and Ad2 (61 %) 60K fiber protein tail domains (2, 3). Further, amino acids 43 to 233 form a typical shaft domain of twelve 15-residue repetitive motifs which is in contrast to 22 such repeats found for Ad2 (3), AdS (4), and Ad41 or 6 repeats found for Ad3 (5) and Ad7 (6). The knob domain (amino acids 234 to 387) is about 15% shorter than found for above mentioned viruses. If this gene is expressed, Ad41 would resemble avian adenoviruses which were found to have two fibers of different size protruding from their pentons (7).
