disorders were excluded by only entering men with fasting plasma cholesterol concentrations between 4-0 and 80 mmol/1 and triglyceride concentrations below 40 mmol/1. We compared these CAD patients with a group of 352, 35-year-old healthy Dutch males, randomly selected from a much larger group2 and with the same cut-offs for plasma cholesterol and triglyceride. Although there is a tendency for a higher frequency of the s4 allele in the younger men with angiographically verified CAD, this difference is not significant; nor is the s4 frequency increased in the CAD group as a whole (table).
