In Response to Simultaneous Pericranial and Nasoseptal Flap Reconstruction of Anterior Skull Base Defects Following Endoscopic-Assisted Craniofacial Resection

In Reply: We would like to thank you for your interest in our published article. We are glad that this procedure has been utilized for similar reasons.1 We would like to point out that the we presented and submitted our article titled “Simultaneous Pericranial and Nasoseptal Flap Reconstruction of Anterior Skull Base Defects Following Endoscopic-Assisted Craniofacial Resection” to the Annual Academy Meeting in Washington, DC on September 10, 2012, before your published article’s availability on PubMed in October 2012.1 This is the reason your article was not referenced. As demonstrated in both articles, the vascularized nasoseptal flap provides additional support, particularly in areas of weakness such as the planum sphenoidale. Another use for the simultaneous pericranial and nasoseptal flap reconstructive technique not discussed in the article by Eloy et al.1 is in the setting of possible poor wound healing from preoperative chemotherapy and radiation treatment. Three of our four patients who underwent preoperative chemotherapy and radiation were
