Message From the Editor Ralph J. Damiano, Jr., MD D ear Colleagues and Readers,
Iternational nnovations is proud to publish the abstract issue for the 2014 Annual Meeting of the InSociety for Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery (ISMICS). This issue contains the program and the abstracts that will be presented at the 17th Annual Meeting in Boston, MA USA, from May 28 to 31, 2014. Our journal has continued to grow and mature along with our Society. We have been accepted for MEDLINE Indexing by the National Library of Medicine. During the last year, we had a record number of manuscripts submitted and pages published. These achievements reflect the hard work of many of our members who have contributed content for publication and offered their time generously to review articles. It cannot be emphasized enough how important the enthusiastic participation of ISMICS members and meeting participants is to the success of Innovations. Last year, we had a record number of submissions from the meeting, and we hope to improve on that this year. Our Annual Meeting provides a wealth of information to the attendees. The quality of the abstracts is extremely high this year. The presentations promise to give a broad overview of recent developments in the field. I hope that the authors and the presenters will strongly consider sending their work to Innovations. The submission can take the form of an original article, case report, video presentation, how-to-do-it article, or review article. All papers will have a rapid and fair review process. Most of our articles are published within 6 months of submission and are then readily accessible on MEDLINE. This year, ISMICS will again be presenting cash awards for the best manuscripts submitted from papers selected for presentation. Two awards will be given in 2014: $2000 to the winner of the Best Manuscript submitted before the Annual Meeting and $1000 to the winner of the Best Manuscript submitted within 60 days after the Annual Meeting. This is meant to be an added incentive for the authors, and we hope that you will promptly submit your work for consideration. I look forward to seeing you at the Annual Scientific Meeting in Boston. I will be happy to speak with any of you to discuss your submission or about any suggestions you might have regarding improvements to our journal. Our managing editor, Carol Blasberg, will also be in attendance and happy to answer any inquiries. There are many opportunities to contribute for both members and nonmembers alike.
