he New Year is upon us and with that brings New Year resolutions. I am writing this in December before any resolutions have been made, although I suspect by the time this reaches your desks many will have already been forgotten, including my own — to get back into a routine at the gym, something I haven’t managed since I started here. But regardless of whether the resolutions are kept, the New Year does offer a chance to think about the year ahead and what we would like to accomplish, both professionally and personally. With this in mind I have spent the past few days thinking about what I would like to do for the journal in 2015. Having been here a little over 4 months, it has been a bit of a whirlwind. Like any new job, there is a lot to take in. But now the steep learning curve is over (I hope!), I wanted to do something more, that would be interesting and educational for you, the reader. One area I haven’t really delved into much in the past is social media and, in the case of JWC, LinkedIn. The JWC LinkedIn group is quite large, with over 600 members, and constantly increasing. There is a truly international following with people from all parts of the world — the UK, US, Brazil, Australia, Japan, The Netherlands, Ireland — you get the idea. Looking at the group statistics, 38% are listed as working in a hospital environment (tissue viability nurses, doctors and podiatrists, to name a few) with 9% in education. So far I have covered three of the four areas which LinkedIn gives statistics on, (summary, demographics and growth). So far, things don’t look too bad. The final tab on the screen is ‘activity’. Here I came across zero posts! In the last week there has been no activity on the group page. So, in light of this, the New Year resolution is to make the JWC LinkedIn page a place for engagement and discussion. I want to start posting weekly discussion topics, but of course it’s really your group and none of this will work without your thoughts and input. What do you want to talk about? Pressure ulcers as a safeguarding issue? The best way to treat biofilm? What are UK politicians promising in the run up to the general election? How do wound care services vary across the world? Start a discussion on what matters to you, or ask me to if you would rather. If you are not a member of the group, details can be found here: http://linkd.in/1znZQ9d. Finally, as it’s is a New Year, we have a new cover theme for the journal. This didn’t seem like a particularly big decision; however, it turned out that choosing a suitable topic is harder than you would think. It must be diverse and exciting and also provide links to articles on wound healing. After much discussion, the final decision was made and toys it is. Maybe your favourite toy will show up in the next year! Dr Rachel Webb (Editor) J O U R N A L O F WO U N D C A R E V O L 2 4 , N O 1 , J A N U A RY 2 0 1 5
