Submitted February 20, 1990 The nucleotide sequences of the membrane protein precursor (prM) and the membrane protein (M) genes of three dengue-2 (DEN-2) viruses, MI, M2 and M3, isolated in Malaysia from patients with dengue haemorrhagic fever, dengue shock syndrome and dengue fever, respectively, were determined by direct RNA sequencing by primer extension with pentadecamer primers and the dideoxyribonucleotide chain termination method. The primers were based on the published nucleotide sequence of DEN-2 (Jamaica) (Deubel et al., 1986).
