School nurse role ‘compromised’

How can emojis help healthcare professionals?

School nurses have never been more vital, writes Anne Longfield in Nursing Children & Young People. These nurses are in a unique position to identify the early signs of abuse in children, as well as to offer a safe space to talk about sex, problems at home and mental health concerns, and the author questions why this aspect of their role is being compromised. The article suggests that involving school nurses in extensive child protection and safeguarding tasks can limit their ability to be accessible to children and young people, and says technological solutions such as websites or a text messaging service should be implemented to provide important advice to those at risk.
