Dear Sir The recent report by Zhao and Hao [1] on pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) in China is very interesting. They concluded that ‘PID is the main cause of tubal infertility, but the etiology of PID has changed from [female genital tuberculosis] to nonspecific PID in the last 10 years in Shanxi’ [1]. The present report still confirms the problem of PID in China. However, it also implies the successful control of TB in China. In fact, abdominopelvic TB is a common gynecological problem in China. It

can mimic cancer and result in missed or delayed diagnosis [2]. The query is whether the prevalence of TB is actually, decreasing in China. The data from a single center in Shanxi may not reflect the actual prevalence in China. Another recent report [3] from Beijing, China, still presented a high rate of TB and this indicated that TB is still an important gynecological problem. It was noted that the first three main problems that led to infertility in China included TB, endometriosis and PID [3].
