A Clinical Guide to Coping with a Remote-controlled Slide Prqtxtor by Dr M. Essex-Lopresti, MFCM, MIMBI

Those who use slides for their lectures are finding it increasingly common for the projector to be left unattended. Teachers are shown where the switches are-or a note is left indicating their position-and the speaker has to be responsible, not only for his or her delivery, but for the quality of the slide presentation. When the equipment works well this proves satisfactory but when problems arise they must be diagnosed and treated, often in the dark and in the presence of an audience rapidly growing restless. Like previous contributions in this series, the signs and symptoms, differential diagnosis and management of each complaint are discussed. Signs and Symptoms

RIME Conference The Association of Medical Colleges will hold its 23rd Annual Conference on Research in Medical Education (RIME) in conjunction with its 95th Annual Meeting, 27 October-1 November 1984 at the Palmer House Hotel in Chicago, Illinois, USA. The RIME Conference is a forum for the presentation and discussion of studies concerning all aspects of medical education at all stages of the continuum. The Conference offers two types of sessions: paper presentations and symposia. The paper presentations should report current investigations with findings that contribute to the medical education literature. The symposia should provide an opportunity for the examination of specific problems or topics from a variety of perspectives. They should be of sufficient importance and scope to permit diverse or conflicting points of view. There will also be a special session devoted to the presentation of innovative research by new investigators. The purpose is to encourage persons new to the field of medical education and those who have not been involved previously with RIME activities to submit papers describing their research and to provide an opportunity for them to present their work at a plenary session. A new investigator must not have been the principal author of a paper presented at the RIME Conference in any previous year.
