In an ongoing epidemiologic study of asymptomatic female carriers of Neisseria gonorrhoeae, the relation of gonorrhea to blood groups A, B, AB, and D was examined in 584 black women attending a prenatal clinic. The results indicate that blood group is an epidemiological marker in gonococcal infection.

Because of racial differences in the frequency of blood groups, black patients and white patients were examined separately. Among the black population, samples from patients with blood group B made up 25.6% of the cultures that contained N. gonorrhoeae and 14.4% of the cultures that did not contain this organism (table 1).
