Baylor College of Dentistry, Dallas, Tex. Constructing porcelain veneer crowns in conjunction with a removable partial denture (RPD) requires matching shades of the denture teeth and veneer facings. A technique is described that allows changing the shade of the porcelain veneer on a porcelain-fused-to-metal abutment crown to match the denture teeth after the RPD has been constructed.lm3

PROCEDURE
1. Impress for the RPD framework in an elastic material with the newly constructed crown seated but not cemented. 2. Form a cast in artificial stone. Remove the crown from the prepared tooth and recement the provisional crown. 3. After the framework is cast, place the abutment crown on the prepared tooth and verify its fit to the RPD framework. 4. Articulate the cast with that of the opposing jaw and arrange the selected denture teeth. Place the veneer crown on the abutment tooth, insert the framework

with denture teeth, and verify the shade match. If a shade discrepancy that cannot be corrected with estrinsic characterization is observed, the porcelain veneer can be remade after the denture bases of the RPD are processed. Process the denture bases and make an irreversible hydrocolloid impression before separating the processed RPD from the cast. Separate the processed RPD from the cast. Place the abutment crown on the die used to construct it and seal the margins with sticky wax (Fig. 1). Seat the RPD and the crown placed on the die in the irreversible hydrocolloid impression. Block out any undercuts with red carding wax (Fig. 2), apply a tinfoil substitute, and pour the impression in artificial stone. After the artificial stone has set, remove the tray with irreversible hydrocolloid, the sticky wax, and the red carding wax. Separate the RPD and the die with the crown from the cast (Fig. 3). Exercise care when removing the wax around the crown margins, clasps, and rest seats of the RPD. Verify the seating of the attached dowel post and RPD on the cast. Phillipsbay, N. J.) and prepare the casting for the application of new porcelain. 11. Bake, contour, and glaze the porcelain facing to recreate the anatomy and retentive properties of the original veneer. 12. Verify fit and the relationship of the crown to the RPD in the mouth, cement the crown, and insert the RPD (Fig. 4). REFERENCES 1. Culpepper WD, Moulton PS. Considerations in fixed prosthodontics.
