Letter to the Editor Reply to Letter: “Is time to recurrence of ventricular fibrillation a constant?”

Conflict of interest All authors have no conflict of interest.

Sir, We thank Ha et al. for releasing their preliminary findings and posing the interesting question: “Is time to recurrence of ventricular fibrillation a constant?” As demonstrated in their figure, we also noted a relatively consistent timeframe (approximating a 30-s interval) for recurrence of VF, though not with the same consistency as observed by Ha and colleagues (figure). One possible explanation for this could be, as Ha et al. suggested, myocardial electropathophysiologic alteration. The rapidity with which VF recurs following shock creates the need for earlier acknowledgment to avoid prolonged periods of on-going VF. This knowledge should accelerate the quest for rapid recognition of post-shock VF during CPR and readiness to deliver a shock as soon as possible.
