Review of 2014: Jack Perkins Prize, Journal Impact Factor, and Editorial Board of Medical Engineering & Physics

The winners of the 2014 Jack Perkins Prize were announced in September at the annual Medical Physics and Engineering Conference (MPEC2014), which took place at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre in Glasgow, Scotland, UK. They are Shaoyu Qiao and Ken Yoshida of Indiana University/Purdue University, IN, USA, for their paper entitled: “Influence of unit distance and conduction velocity on the spectra of extracellular action potentials recorded with intrafascicular electrodes,” Med. Eng. Phys., 35(1): 116–124. In June we learned that the Journal’s Impact Factor had risen from 1.779 (2012) to 1.839 (2013).1 The Journal is now ranked 32 out of 77 in the ‘Engineering, Biomedical’ category. I should add that the number of articles for the period increased by 20% compared to the previous year (2012), while the figure for the number of cites is up by 15% on the previous year, which places the Journal 12th equal and 15th, respectively, in terms of volume. On behalf of the Editorial Board, and the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine
