PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Strength in Unity ‘‘It’s hard to beat a person who never gives up.’’–Babe Ruth

Time flies when you’re having fun, and, unbelievably, this is my last president’s message. I am both grateful and humbled to have served as your president over the past year. Next month, Frank Spinosa, DPM, will assume the presidency. I know our association will thrive under his very capable leadership. Together, we have accomplished so much in the past year. I am so impressed with the tenacity and perseverance of our profession. There is still much to be done, and I know that with the support of our outstanding staff and the guidance of our Board of Trustees, we will never give up! The steadfast resolve of this profession is evident in the success we have had in achieving many of the objectives of Vision 2015, a time-limited initiative designed to propel us along our long-term path to parity. As president, I have asked you as the members to get more involved in APMA by giving 15 minutes a week toward our goals. The power that we have as a profession working together is incredible. Thank you to everyone who has worked for the benefit of every APMA member and every

podiatrist. Together, we can make our vision a reality, and we will continue along our path to parity in the years to come. If you are not participating in moving us forward, you are slowing the progress for all of us. APMA has provided us with great tools and resources that make it easy to get involved. Please take advantage of them. Just 15 minutes out of your week can make a difference for the entire profession. I especially encourage young physicians to get more involved. APMA has afforded me so many exciting opportunities over the course of my career. You are the future leaders of podiatric medicine, and I hope you, too, will take advantage of the opportunities your association has to offer. APMA continues to work for you, addressing our residency shortage; working to provide important resources tailored to you, including career assistance and financial advice; and offering opportunities for enrichment and networking. Want more information or have suggestions for new resources for young physicians? Contact APMA’s Young Physicians’ Program Director, Nichol Salvo, DPM, at nlsalvo@ apma.org. It has been an honor and a privilege to be your president. Thank you for the opportunity to work for this extraordinary profession. MATTHEW G. GAROUFALIS, DPM President
