ACCEPTED MANUSCRIPT Abstract

20

Objective: To introduce a new technique of laparoscopic myomectomy (LM) using single

21

port access and modified suture technique.

22

Methods: During October 2011 and December 2012, 55 consecutive patients underwent

23

single-port LM with modified suture technique using Hem-o-lock ligation clip and myoma

24

morcellation through the umbilical incision site (Choi’s LM). As a historic control, patients

25

who underwent conventional multi-port LM from Jan 2008 through Nov 2010 were included

26

in the study. The electronic chart reviews of the 157 patients (55 Choi’s LM and 102 LM)

27

were done retrospectively. The inclusion criteria were symptomatic myomas measuring 10

28

cm or less and the number of myomas less than 3. The outcomes measured were operative

29

time, estimated blood loss, complications, length of postoperative hospital stay and

30

postoperative pain.

31

Results: Age, symptoms resulting from the myomas, location and type of the dominant

32

myomas, and number of myomas were similar in the 2 groups. There were no significant

33

differences concerning the mean diameter (6.8 cm versus 7.0 cm; P=0.40) of the myomas

34

between the groups. The mean duration of the operation was shorter (104 min vs. 152 min;
