The Korean Society for Photomedicine

The Korean Society for Photomedicine (KSPM) was established in 1982 to promote understanding of the medical and scientific aspects of electromagnetic waves. The first president was Professor Won Heo. Our Society held unscheduled meetings until 1996. Since then, regular annual meetings have been held every year in June. This year, we had the 23rd meeting. The programs of these annual meetings included sessions of special lectures, recent hot topics of photobiology and photomedicine, and free communications. We also provided educational lectures for associate members and private practitioners. The KSPM has over one thousand members (dermatology specialists) and over three hundred associate members (dermatology residents) and special members (non M.D. scientists). Our society is open for any fields of science and is not limited to the medical field.

The KSPM is now 31 years old. Without an official journal, it was difficult for us to convey our achievements. Photodermatology, Photoimmunology & Photomedicine (PPP) is an authoritative international scientific journal, already backed by the Photomedicine Society in the U.S.A., the British Photodermatology Group, and the European Society for Photodermatology. I am very pleased that the PPP editorial committee has acknowledged PPP as an official journal of the KSPM. This recognition of the KSPM will provide our members opportunities to publish their work and to reach a worldwide audience. Thank you very much for the support.
