The passing of Frederick J. de Serres Jr.
It is with sadness that we report the death of our predecessor Editor of Mutation Research—Reviews, Dr. Frederik J. de Serres Jr. Fred was a giant in the fields of mutagenesis and genetic toxicology, and he was one of a group of the first Editors of this section of the journal. We were honored to be asked to follow him after he and the other editors had established the reviews section, and we published a Special Issue in his honor at the time (Mutat Res 437:63–194, 1999). This issue contains an obituary by Fred’s former postdoctoral investigator and long-time collaborator, Herman E. Brockman. We thank Herman for this memorial to our colleague and friend.
