I am very pleased to announce that with this issue, the Korean Society for Photomedicine joins the rank of three other Societies of Photodermatology or Photomedicine by also making this journal its official publication. The US-based Photomedicine Society made this step in 1996, the British Photodermatology Group in 2003, and the European Society for Photodermatology in 2009. PPP now represents the interests of clinicians and scientists from three continents. Photodermatology and photomedicine are small subspecialties within dermatology and medicine and it is important that we coordinate our efforts to maximize our influence for the benefit of our patients. Learning how to best use ultraviolet, visible, and infrared radiation for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes, while understanding how to best protect against the deleterious effects is an area that has seen tremendous

advances since the inception of PPP and continues to be a very active area of investigations. I fully expect that progress in this area will continue to promote health and health care for humankind for a long time to come. Having a central outlet for publication of our members’ work and for announcements of the Societies will be instrumental towards these goals. PPP is more and more becoming a World Journal of Photomedicine and related photobiologic science and I would like to urge other Societies of Photodermatology or Photomedicine to be coming onboard as well. But for now, please join me with a warm welcome to our colleagues from Korea.
