HEALTH OF CALCUTTA.

During the week ended the 6th of September, there were 206 deaths registered in Calcutta, giving a death-rate of 24-8 per thousand per annum. In the previous week there were 171 deaths, and the death-rate was 20*5 per thousand. There was 1 death from small-pox, 5 from cholera, 78 from fevers, 33 from tetanus, and 6 from causes not specified. The deaths are thus classified : 3 Non-Asiatics, 6 Mixed Races, 144 Hindus, 52 Muhammadans, and I of other races. During the week ended the 13th September, the total deaths registered were 194 against 206 and 171 in the two preceding weeks, and 26 in excess of the corresponding week last year. Under the head of cholera there were 11 deaths against 5 and 2 in the two preceding weeks. There was only 1 death from smallpox during the week. The mortality of the week was at the rate of 23 3 per 1,000 per annum. During the week ended the 20th September, the total deaths registered were 216 against 194 and 206 in the two preceding weeks, and 34 in excess of the corresponding week last year.
