World Health Organization Global AIDS Statistics As of 1 October 1991 a cumulative global total of 418,403 cases of AIDS has been reported from 163 countries. This is the first quarterly report. During the previous quarter (April through June) approximately 30,000 cases were reported, and during this quarter (July through September) 46,600 cases were reported. The increase is due mainly to the receipt of updated reports from several African countries, the Region of the Americas, and the European Region. The case rate is expressed as cases per 100,000 of population. 1990 reporting generally incomplete. Signifies an updated report.
