Pediatric Rheumatology

Foreword

Michael H. Weisman, MD Consulting Editor

Andreas Reiff has created a volume that addresses some of the most pressing issues facing pediatric rheumatology today. These issues are how to recognize and treat auto-inflammatory syndromes and how to take the advances in genetic identification of susceptibility and severity of pediatric rheumatic diseases and translate them into treatment approaches. Clearly the approach to myositis, scleroderma, and spondyloarthritis in the pediatric population requires a level of intensity and attention to new biomarkers and outcome measures that were not generally recognized 5 years ago, and this volume will be a very handy companion and support for the most modern and up-to-date approaches to individual patient care. In addition, Andreas has made it clear that he has given the next generation of clinical scholars the chance to learn how to synthesize the literature in a series of reviews that were highly mentored by experts in the field. It is gratifying to see how far, timely, and useful the Rheumatic Disease Clinics of North America have become over the years, and thanks to Andreas, this volume adds to the prestige and importance of continuing the series.
