nder the leadership of President Daniel Resnick and the Executive Committee (EC), the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS) remains focused primarily on educating neurosurgeons worldwide. In the past year, the CNS International Division (CNSID) has continued to undergo tremendous growth and reorganization to fulfill this mission as the primary mechanism for international collaboration between the CNS and other organizations globally under the direction of Dr Charles Liu as chair. In addition, the CNSID has benefited considerably from the continued leadership of PastPresident P. David Adelson, Member-at-Large Shekar Krupad, Daniel Prevedello, and EC member Mustafa Baskaya. The annual meeting partnership continues to be an opportunity to highlight the international activities of the CNS, including in San Francisco in 2013. At this meeting, the memorandum of understanding between the CNS and the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies was signed, an effort spearheaded by Dr Adelson. This agreement to collaborate will ensure the long-term engagement of the 2 societies in perpetuity, starting with a strong CNS delegation to attend the annual meeting of the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies in Prague in 2014. The CNS annual meeting partner in 2013 was the Chinese Neurosurgical Society. The Chinese CNS delegation included VicePresident Professor Xue Bai Nan, Secretary Chen Xiaolei, and Professor Ying Mao from Shanghai and many more leaders of Chinese neurosurgery. The mutual efforts of the CNS and the Chinese CNS resulted in excellent participation of our Chinese colleagues in all the scientific and social programs. The 2014 annual meeting partner was Israel, with President Daniel Resnick and Elad Levy leading the interactions with our Israeli colleagues. In 2015, the CNS annual meeting partner will be the Turkish Neurosurgical Society. Over the past year, led by President-Elect Nathan Selden and Dr Baskaya, numerous discussions were held regarding plans for collaboration during the annual meeting and beyond.

Dr Selden attended the annual meeting of the Turkish Neurosurgical Society to further lay the groundwork for long-term collaborations with our Turkish colleagues. Finally, on the recommendation of the CNSID, the EC has selected the Continental Association of African Neurosurgical Societies as the 2016 annual meeting partner. The CNSID is very much looking forward to planning these interactions with Professor Graham Fieggen of Cape Town. During the past year, the CNSID has undergone significant reorganization around 5 world regions: Europe; Asia; South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Australasia; Latin America; and Africa and the Middle East. The scope of international activities requires considerable resources and independent development coordinated through the CNSID structure under the guidance of the EC. Under the direction of the vice-chair of Asia, Dr Charles Liu, the CNS continued to engage with the Chinese CNS to maximize the momentum developed over the past year. The discussions initiated during the preparation for the annual meeting partnership were continued during visits by Dr Liu to Beijing and Shanghai in March. In Beijing, numerous opportunities to collaborate between the evolving neurosurgical field in China and the CNS were discussed with Professor Jizong Zhao, a newly elected academician at the Tiantan Hospital of Capital Medical University. In addition, discussions also took place with Professor Chen Xiaolei and Professor Zhou Ding Biao, the secretary and president of the Chinese CNS, respectively. The goal of these discussions is to result in a memorandum of understanding between the CNS and the Chinese CNS for longterm collaboration. In the next years, similar discussions will be initiated between other major neurosurgical groups in Asia, including the Japan CNS and Korean Neurosurgical Society. Dr Shekar Kurpad continues to provide considerable leadership in furthering the education mission of the CNS with India and South Asia as vice-chair. Working closely with the senior leadership of the Neurosurgical Society of India (NSI), Dr Kurpad has escalated numerous

collaborative efforts between the NSI and CNS, expanding on the initial efforts of Dr Adelson. These efforts were rewarded with a significant agreement for long-term collaboration between the NSI and CNS. The NSI leadership team who worked toward this momentous agreement included Drs V. Rajshekhar, C. Deopujari, R.C. Mishra, and B.S. Sharma. This significant agreement was highlighted during a memorandum of understanding signing ceremony at the 2014 annual meeting in Boston. Under the direction of Vice-Chair Dr Daniel Prevedello, the CNSID continued to discuss the terms of long-term collaboration between the CNS and the Brazilian Neurosurgical Society (SBN). Over the course of the past year, Dr Prevedello has worked very closely with the senior leadership of the SBN, including the president, Dr Sebastião Gusmao, to discuss many collaborative efforts with the CNS in forwarding the education of neurosurgeons in Brazil. The SBN is the principal neurosurgical society in Brazil, with a membership of .2000. Indeed, the CNS delegation to the September 2014 annual meeting of the SBN, led by Dr Prevedello and Past-President Dr Ali Rezai, was a tremendous success. Outside of Brazil, Dr Prevedello has also catalyzed discussion between the CNS and the senior Latin American leadership of the World Federation of Neurosurgical

Societies, as well as that of the Latin American Federation of Neurosurgical Societies. Over the next years, an increasing number of neurosurgeons in Latin America will benefit from the synergistic programs between local societies and the CNS. In summary, the CNSID has made tremendous progress to facilitate the fulfillment of the education mission of the CNS globally. The agreements to collaborate and relationships established between the CNS leadership and global societies during the period of extended contact leading up to the annual meeting will result in durable partnerships. In this way, the spectrum of educational offerings developed by the CNS, particularly those facilitated by powerful information technology infrastructure and unique simulation platforms, will make a significant contribution to worldwide education as they are used as part of mutually beneficial partnerships between the CNS and international societies. In the coming year, the chair of the CNSID will transition from Dr Liu to Dr Baskaya, who will work closely with President-Elect Selden on all international initiatives.
