The Maharaja of Patiala, acting on the suo-o-estion of Surgeon-Major Owen, his medical adviser, has applied for the services of a Medical Officer to carry out an investigation into the fevers which prevail in his State during the rains. Surgeon-Major Ronald Ross, Madras Medical Service, is the Officer named by the Maharaja, and his work would be to determine certain questions respectino; the micro-organism of malaria in He has made a special study of the India. subject and, as already notified, won the Parkes Memorial Prize for 1891.
