Editorial

Note from the Editor As 2015 comes to an end, I am excited to report on the successes of our first year of publication of Arthroplasty Today, as well as on the expectations for the year ahead. Our first articles were published in March after systematic double-blind peer reviewing, and all Arthroplasty Today content is now available online. Our acceptance rate is approximately 30 percent and time to publication approximately 4 months. Our journal, published by the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS), places a high priority on rapid publication and seeks to publish a broad range of content, while focusing on the case report. We have initiated a high-priority process for indexing in PubMed central. With this issue, Arthroplasty Today will become the official journal of the American Joint Replacement Registry (AJRR), an endeavor that is supported without reservation by AAHKS. This means that our December issue will publish the summary of the AJRR findings each year and that we hope to publish an original research article using data from the AJRR each year in the June issue. Further collaboration is fully expected over time. Next, we hope to prioritize our September issue each year to include a worldwide perspective. This year’s issue was well received, and we hope to foster the international collaboration that AAHKS is known for through our journal’s scope and offerings. Our December issue will be a theme issue, with a guest editorial. For 2015, our December issue will focus on the complexities of

adverse local tissue reactions associated with metal debris, and Douglas W. Van Citters, PhD, Retrieval Lab Director and Assistant Professor of Engineering from the Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth will comment. Last, but far from least, I would like to thank all of our reviewers for their excellent and timely work. The journal hinges on their selfless efforts. A personal note of thanks also to the AAHKS Board of Directors, the AAHKS Publications Committee, Taylor Bowen (Arthroplasty Today Managing Editor), Mike Zarski (Executive Director of AAHKS), Denise Smith Rodd (AAHKS Publication Liaison), Shanna Sever (Journal Manager, Graphic World Inc. and Elsevier Publications), Allan Ross (Senior Publisher, Elsevier), Jason Miller (former Executive Publisher, Elsevier), and Associate Editors Stefano A. Bini, MD, Mark J. Spangehl, MD, and Bryan D. Springer, MD, who helped me tremendously this year.
